Rail-Gen, the mailing list for rare workings on the UK's railways. The purpose of this service is to relay information on RARE and NEWSWORTHY workings to subscribers. The intention is to keep the number of postings to a reasonable level at all times - the great majority of subscribers do not want to receive large numbers of messages. Indeed, there will be days when nothing much is happening, so it is expected that there will be only one or two postings, maybe none. Because there are 1500+ subscribers to this service, it is very important that this is understood. Failure to adhere to the following simple rules could lead to your subscription being terminated. Thanks for your understanding in this, and please always think before posting.

The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway Association is working in partnership with WyvernRail to reopen the Duffield to Wirksworth railway in the heart of Derbyshire, England. The line passes through the beautiful Ecclesbourne Valley to the award winning and beautifully restored town of Wirksworth, nestling at the foothills of the Peak District. The line is a time capsule, with its intermediate stations intact and the layout at Wirksworth unchanged since the days of steam. We have 8½ miles of single-track railway (largely still intact) which joins the Midland Main Line at Duffield. There are five station sites, two level crossings, a yard with extensive sidings and a mineral branch to the old Middlepeak quarry at Wirksworth. We hope to link the mineral line to the National Stone Centre and the High Peak Trail. Join us to bring the railway back from a decade of slumber and return passenger trains to this unspoilt branch line of the old Midland Railway.

We are concerned with restoring the XP64 carriages and locomotive to original condition. Currently we know of five carriages' and the locomotive's whereabouts, all of which are at risk in the short-medium term future. Hopefully we will be able to secure lottery funding for the project, which would be 1) to re-unite all the XP64 stock, 2) restore 47853 to as near original condition as possible.
