Notes by N. Drewry I lived at 167 Carr Lane in Grimsby from 1961 to 1967, and it was well served with buses. No.1 service : Cleveland Bridge - Riby Square - Old Clee, Alternate buses extended to Beacon Hill, Cleethorpes. Also at works times extended to Pyewip Factories; No. 4 service: Old Clee - Town Centre - Yarborough Road - Bradley Cross Roads (extended from Old Clee to Cleethorpes Pier during the summer); No 4A service: As no.4 but with a diversion via Broadway and no extension to Cleethorpe Pier. All three services operated to a 15 minute frequency at 00 (4), 04 (1), 08 (4A) and 15 (4) , etc. No. 1 service became no.7 at Beacon Hill and travelled on to Cleethorpes, then by the former trolleybus route to Lord Street and Yarborough Road. No. 4 became No. 3A/3F and the 4A became no. 3 at Bradley Cross Roads and travelled via Nunsthorpe - Town Centre and the former trolleybus route to the Bathing Pool. At the latter location, to save wasted layover time, there was a switch between service 3 and service 9 (trolley route then to Waltham). We had about 30 different buses passing the house. The short journey to Old Clee on No. 1 service was a Pay As You Enter single decker, the rest being operated by double deckers. |
