The Great Western Moor Street terminus at Birmingham opened on July 1st, 1909, and was used for the Stratford-upon-Avon and Leamington Spa services on the GWR whilst the others used Snow Hill at the end of a nearby tunnel on a parallel GWR line. The latter station was closed to passengers on March 6th, 1972, but later reopened again on October 5th, 1987. As a result, a new Moor Street station was constructed along the main route and the terminus was closed on September 28th, 1987. Following a period of dereliction, the station was restored to it's former GWR glory.

Details of the restoration project can be found by clicking on this link. Those wishing for a more detailed history of Moor Street and other railways in this region are recommended to visit the excellent Rails Around Birmingham site.

The following photographs illustrate the former terminus during its final years and as it was when we visited in October 2004.
